Brotato: Primal Dread Jungle Guide — Waves and Hazards

How the Primal Dread jungle works: 20 waves, charging dino packs, flying enemies, holes, and Mecha vs. Mutation hazards.
The Brotato: Primal Dread jungle is a new map with 20 standard waves of new enemies, elites, and bosses. The official launch announcement names the hazards to plan around: packs of dinosaurs that charge through the undergrowth, flying dinosaurs introduced alongside a new "holes" environmental hazard, and an Evolution stat that changes both your bonuses and the enemies you face. Exact wave layouts, boss attack patterns, and damage values are not documented in the sources used here, so this guide stays with what the developer confirmed.
What the jungle throws at you
Per the launch post, the jungle looks deliberately different from the Crash Zone and Abyss. Two enemy behaviors are named:
- Charging dino packs. Dinosaurs come "steaming out of the jungle" in hordes rather than as single stragglers. The post frames the risk as a stampede, so open ground is where groups can arrive quickly.
- Flying dinosaurs and holes. The new environmental hazard is "the dreaded holes," and the developer says flying dinosaurs were a required addition alongside it. The post does not explain exactly how the two interact, so don't assume fliers are the only thing that can cross a hole.
The DLC adds new elites and bosses across its 20 waves, but no source in this material names their attacks or which wave each appears on.
Mecha vs. Mutation: two different hazard sets
The Evolution stat is pushed in two directions by picking up item drops on the map. Each direction gives different bonuses and reshapes enemies in its own way. The launch post presents them as parallel options, not a ranked list.
| Path | Your upside | Enemy downside |
|---|---|---|
| Mecha | Reinforce weapons, gain extra stats, and dismantle mecha weapons in the shop for more parts | Mecha dinosaurs shoot lasers and leave oil puddles that slow you |
| Mutation | Randomly copy item effects, which can multiply their power | Mutant dinosaurs spread acid |
Because lasers and slowing oil belong to the Mecha path and acid belongs to the Mutation path, which hazard you face follows from which drops you collect. The sources do not state whether both hazard sets can appear in the same run, so treat that as unconfirmed. For more, see the Evolution overview, the Mecha path, and the Mutation path.
Mutagens and the current patch
Mutagens are the small green flasks dropped by mutant enemies. The Patch v1.2.0.1 notes, published November 3, 2026, raised their base drop chance from 2% to 3%. The same patch also:
- Stopped mutations from copying the Survivor's "No weapon in the shop" effect.
- Capped Baby Trex speed at 95% of the target player's max speed.
The patch notes say further balancing is planned, so treat these numbers as current as of that patch, not permanent.
Practical takeaways
- Expect groups, not singles. Charging packs mean the space behind you is not automatically safe.
- Watch the floor. Oil puddles slow you on the Mecha path; acid is the Mutation-side hazard. Keeping a clear escape lane follows from both hazards being ground-based, though the sources do not test this.
- Pick your Evolution direction deliberately. The bonuses and the enemy changes come as a package, and the sources do not say you must lock into one.
- Deactivate old mods. The launch post warns that outdated mods can conflict with the update.
