Brotato: Primal Dread Mecha Guide — Parts and Mechanization

How the Mecha Evolution path works in Brotato: Primal Dread: mech parts, weapon mechanization, dismantling, and laser/oil hazards.
Mecha is one of the two Evolution paths in Brotato: Primal Dread. The official launch post describes the loop plainly: collect mech parts, spend them to reinforce ("mechanize") your weapons for extra stats, and dismantle mechanized weapons in the shop to get more parts. In exchange, mecha dinosaurs appear — they fire lasers and leave oil puddles that slow you down. The developers present Mecha and Mutation as different trade-offs, not as one being universally better.
Getting mech parts
The two sources named in the official announcement are picking up mech parts as drops on the map and dismantling mechanized weapons in the shop. That is the confirmed core. The announcement does not give a fixed part cost for mechanizing, a fixed dismantle price, or an upgrade schedule, so don't budget around a specific number.
Community footage adds practical, character-specific detail. In one Droid run, the creator reports gaining one mech part per level-up and extra Evolution at the end of each wave, and notes that dismantling an unwanted shop weapon costs materials and returns parts rather than a refund. Those numbers belong to that character and that player's run, not to the Mecha path in general.
Mechanizing a weapon
When you mechanize, you choose between stat options offered for that weapon. Community footage shows different weapons offering different choices — flat ranged damage versus armor, or dodge versus damage — and shows that declining an option can change what appears on a later visit. That choice is the real value of the system: you steer stats toward what your build needs instead of taking a random roll.
A recurring community recommendation is to concentrate parts on one high-level weapon rather than spreading them thin, because the stat bonuses stack and the damage ratio on a fast-firing weapon compounds quickly. This is player advice, not an official rule, and the same creator expects the developers to tone mechanization down. For the broader comparison, see Brotato: Primal Dread Evolution and Brotato: Primal Dread Mutation.
Mecha enemies: lasers and oil
Once you commit to Mecha, the jungle answers in kind. The official post states mecha dinosaurs will shoot lasers and leave oil puddles across the map that slow you down. Plan for both:
- Lasers are telegraphed attacks. Community footage describes them as readable but easy to miss in heavy visual clutter, partly because mechanized enemies share a blue palette with the background.
- Oil puddles slow your movement. Getting caught in one while a laser is charging is the main way mecha runs lose materials or health.
A community item, the Jamming Backpack, is reported to slow mecha enemies by 50% when you hit them, which offsets some of that pressure. That is a player report, not official documentation.
Mecha versus Mutation
The official launch post frames these as two directions with different rewards and different enemy behavior: Mecha reinforces weapons and grants stats, while Mutation randomly copies your item effects and sends acid-spreading mutants at you. The developers do not declare a winner. Community players have called mechanization the stronger of the two in the DLC's opening weeks, but those same sources expect rebalancing, so follow the current patch rather than launch-week impressions.
