Brotato: Primal Dread Droid Guide: Materials as HP
Reviewed: · Primal Dread Wiki editors
How the Droid works in Brotato: Primal Dread, why shop spending is risky, and how to build around Mecha mechanization.
The Droid in Brotato: Primal Dread turns your economy into your life bar. Damage taken removes materials instead of HP, and the run ends when your materials reach zero. Because the Droid can only evolve on the Mecha side, the character is built around mech parts, weapon mechanization, and avoiding hits rather than healing. The details below come from player gameplay videos, not developer documentation, so treat the numbers as a snapshot of those runs.
What the Droid actually does
- Materials replace HP. Damage drains materials; you die when they run out. One creator describes it as losing money instead of blood.
- Mecha-only evolution. The Droid cannot take the Mutation path.
- Mech parts instead of level-up stats. The character gains mech parts when leveling, plus an extra mech evolution at the end of each wave, but gets no normal level-up upgrades and increases enemy damage as it levels.
These are distinct effects: the level-up trade and the end-of-wave evolution bonus are separate. Because there is no HP pool, max HP, HP regen, and life steal do little for this character. One creator notes that healing items are restricted from the Droid's item pool, which thins the shop toward items you actually want.
Stats that matter
| Stat | Why it helps the Droid |
|---|---|
| Dodge | Avoids the hit entirely, so you keep your materials |
| Pickup range | Materials are your life and your income; collect faster |
| Move speed | Kite attacks and reach drops without taking hits |
| Armor | Reduces the material loss when you do get hit |
| Ranged damage | Most observed Droid runs leaned on guns |
Players in the supplied runs treat dodge as the standout stat and generally skip max HP and healing. Armor still matters because it cuts the size of each material loss.
Mecha upgrades and mech parts
Mech parts come from leveling, from dismantling or recycling mechanized weapons, and from mechanized enemies on the battlefield. You spend them to mechanize a weapon, choosing between two offered stat bonuses each time. Mechanizing a weapon again costs more, and its offered stats can change between waves if you decline.
Community advice favors stacking mechanization on a single strong weapon, such as a machine gun, because the damage multiplier compounds on a fast-firing weapon. The same creator expects mechanization to be toned down in future balance passes, so treat extreme results as a snapshot of that run, not a permanent target. The official patch notes show the developers are still adjusting Primal Dread.
Weapon and build notes
Observed Droid runs used rail guns, machine guns, grenade launchers, and rocket launchers. Explosive weapons performed well against the Jungle's fast, grouped dinosaurs, which reward clearing packs at once. One player also tried turrets and engineering; that creator found the turret damage lagged against bosses, while another run killed a boss with a turret-heavy setup. Treat boss performance as run-dependent rather than a fixed weakness.
