Brotato: Primal Dread Characters — Confirmed Details

Which Primal Dread characters have official mechanics, which are only community-reported, and how each one plays.
Brotato: Primal Dread adds 10 new characters, according to the official Steam store page. The sources here give developer-confirmed mechanics for only a few of them. The rest are known from community footage, and some of those details are the creator's own guesses. Treat them as leads, not verified stats.
Characters with official details
The launch announcement names three characters and describes their core gimmicks:
- Time Shifter — "take a hit and slow down everything around you, except yourself." The slow triggers on damage taken, so the character is built around surviving hits rather than avoiding them. See the Time Shifter page.
- Veteran — "a one-potato army who is used to facing swarms of enemies without time to heal," with an explicit 1980s action-movie tease. No exact stats are published.
- Archeologist — "dig up crates from dig sites and get stronger with every crate." Crate generation drives the build. See the Archaeologist page.
The 1.2.0.1 patch notes confirm the Survivor exists and has a "No weapon in the shop" effect. That effect can no longer be copied by Mutations.
Characters known only from community footage
These come from creator videos, not developer text. Some mechanics are explicitly labeled as guesses in the footage.
- Digger — shown with a hunting rifle. A yellow zone around killed enemies reportedly boosts your power but cuts money per kill. The creator was unsure whether the effect stacks across waves. (video)
- Troy and Baron — two characters on one map, built around the Evolution stat, with yellow and green puddles on the floor. Troy was seen carrying an SMG and shotgun, which the creator reads as a ranged hint. He suggests learning Evolution first before playing them. (video)
- Little Arsonist — carries a Molotov and flaming knuckles, so the creator expects a magic/fire build. (video)
- Caveman — reported synergy with primitive-class weapons that hit harder when the weapon is burned. The creator calls this potentially strong because sticks and spears are already rated highly. (video)
Survivor in practice
The Survivor gameplay video is the most detailed look at a single character. The creator reads these from the character screen: weapons come only from crates, no weapons in shops, up to eight weapon slots, more trees spawning, a 25% crate chance, and one extra starting weapon. The run leaned on luck and pan flutes, and the creator notes that specific weapons scale with luck rather than luck raising all damage. This is one player's run, not a proven optimal setup.
