Brotato: Primal Dread Co-op: Local and Remote Play

Reviewed: · Primal Dread Wiki editors

Primal Dread co-op is shared/split-screen on one machine or Steam Remote Play Together. No native online matchmaking is documented.

Brotato: Primal Dread has no documented native online matchmaking. Co-op works two ways: shared/split-screen play on one machine, or Steam Remote Play Together, which streams that local session to friends. Both the Primal Dread store page and the base game page list shared/split-screen co-op and Remote Play Together among their features.

What the store pages confirm

The feature lists on both pages include single-player, shared/split-screen co-op, shared/split-screen, Remote Play Together, and Remote Play on TV. The base game description is the only place the sources give a player count: "Local Co-Op for up to 4 players." The DLC listing lists the co-op features but does not restate a player count.

Nothing in the supplied material describes an in-game online lobby, friend invites through the game, or dedicated servers. Treat built-in online play as unsupported.

Local session vs. Remote Play Together

The sources do not spell out setup steps for either mode, so this guide does not guess at menu paths or invite flows.

Co-op fixes in patch v1.2.0.1

The official patch v1.2.0.1 notes, published November 3, 2026, list one co-op crash fix: a crash when several players chose a reward from a crate at the same time while playing the Survivor. That is the developer's stated change. It does not prove every co-op crash or desync is gone, and the notes list no other co-op crash fixes.

The same patch includes two co-op shop display fixes:

  • The mecha parts counter no longer pushes a player's column off screen; it now sits next to the weapons count.
  • Mechanized weapons' stat choices no longer overflow onto the price and the next player's column.

These are interface fixes, not changes to how co-op works.

Reporting bugs

The launch announcement asks players to report issues through the official Discord feedback channel or the Steam bug reports forum. Those are general bug-reporting channels, not a co-op-specific support path.
