Brotato: Primal Dread Patch v1.2.0.1 and Update 1.2

Reviewed: · Primal Dread Wiki editors

What changed in Brotato: Primal Dread's first patch and the free 1.2 base-game update, with sourced values and clear DLC vs. free-content boundaries.

Brotato: Primal Dread launched on PC on November 2, 2026, and the first post-launch patch, v1.2.0.1, arrived November 3, 2026. That patch is mostly fixes. The larger set of changes came with the free 1.2.0.0 base-game update released alongside the DLC. The two are separated below so you know which changes need the paid DLC and which apply to everyone.

The developer said the 1.2.0.1 patch focuses on bug fixes for now, with balancing to follow "in the coming days" after reading feedback. Treat the values below as the current stated state, not a finished balance pass.

Patch v1.2.0.1 (November 3, 2026)

These are the changes named in the official v1.2.0.1 patch notes.

Balance

ChangeBefore → After
Mutagen drop chance (green flasks from mutant enemies)2% → 3% base
Mutations copying the Survivor's "No weapon in the shop" effectNo longer possible
Baby Trex speedCapped at 95% of the target player's max speed

Fixes

  • A co-op crash when several players picked a crate reward at the same time while playing the Survivor.
  • Buying the Hourglass now updates the shop correctly: the Endless button and boss icon no longer appear when the next wave isn't wave 20, and upcoming wave icons match the real next wave.
  • Wave 19 shop: the Go button no longer gets cut off, and the boss icon appears inside the Endless and Go buttons.
  • Co-op shop: the mecha parts counter no longer pushes a player's column off screen; it now sits next to the weapons count.
  • Co-op shop: mechanized weapons' stat choices no longer overflow onto the price and the next player's column.
  • Brachiosaurus and its foot now display correctly in the Codex.
  • Logo position fixed on the New Dawn and All Pain No Gain title screens.

Translations

  • "Mechanize" is now translated in all languages.
  • Spanish: wording fixes for stat modification effects and the Spoon's burning crit description.
  • French: missing accents on "Mécaniser" fixed.

Free 1.2.0.0 update (November 2, 2026)

The Update 1.2 announcement covers base-game changes that don't require the DLC. The headline feature is the Item Set menu, which lets you turn entire content packs on or off — for example, disabling Pets while keeping other content — and it's reachable quickly from character selection.

Nightmare difficulty nerfs

  • Several Crash Zone difficulty spikes rebalanced, particularly waves where combined spawns got overwhelming.
  • Fewer projectiles from Horned Fly, Bloated Pufferfish, and Horned Spitter.
  • Scaled Stargazer movement speed reduced.
  • Brainy Squid and Cool Walrus health reduced; Junkie and Dire Junkie movement speed reduced.
  • Horned Bruiser health reduced.

Character buffs

  • Diver: enemy health modifier 250% → 200%.
  • Druid: fruit spawn chance 3 → 4.
  • Dwarf: Engineering every 5 kills instead of 6.
  • Hiker: 5 materials every 8 steps instead of every 10; movement speed penalty removed.
  • Farmer: starts with a Garden.
  • Fisherman: gold drop penalty -50% → -40%.
  • Beastmaster: starts with an extra Rat pet.
  • One Armed: its weapon counts as 3 extra weapons of its classes for set bonuses.

Shop odds

  • Chance to be offered a weapon you own: 20% → 23% (early-wave bonus 5% → 7%), plus 2% per different weapon you own, up to 6.
  • Chance to be offered a weapon of one of your classes: +1% per different weapon you own, up to 6.

Fixes: Revolver, Combat Shotgun, Chain Gun, Chainsaw, and Grenade Launcher now keep reducing long reload time with Attack Speed after the normal cooldown hits its minimum. Weapons now draw on top of other entities.

What the paid DLC adds

For reference, the launch announcement and Steam store page list the Jungle map with 20 waves, 10 new characters, 17 new weapons, 40 new items, the Evolution stat, new music, and separate achievements. Evolution splits into Mecha and Mutation paths — see the Evolution overview if you want the mechanics rather than the patch history. The DLC requires the base game; Steam listed it at $3.99 at the time of writing.
